About Justin.

A little bit about me.

Choosing a counsellor isn’t only about qualifications. It also matters whether you feel comfortable talking to them.

I take my work seriously, but that doesn’t mean our conversations need to feel formal. There can be room for humour as well as difficult feelings, and you can tell me if I’ve misunderstood something.

A little background

What brought me to counselling.

Before counselling, I worked in project management and digital marketing. Over time, I wanted a different kind of working life: one where I could make a positive difference to people, however small.

I didn't immediately know what that would look elike. A conversation with a friend who had qualified as a counsellor led me to explore the possibilities.

The more I learned, the more it felt right. By the end of my Level 2 counselling course, I know I wanted to continue.

Learning to listen, rather than fix.

I used to think I was a good listener. Training helped me notice how often I was already looking for a solution, rather than really hearing what someone was saying.

I began to understand that helping doesn't always mean finding an answer. Sometimes it means listening properly and giving someone room to work things out for themselves.

That stays with me in my work. I'll be present, ask questions and share reflections, while staying open to being corrected if I've misunderstood

a little of the rest of me

Away from counselling

Outside of counselling, I enjoy cooking at home, listening to music, settling into a game on my Switch or watching some anime. The cats are usually nearby, sometimes helpfully making themselves comfortable on my laptop keyboard.

I’ve been enjoying getting out for walks more, too, and a stroll along the beach is always welcome when I’m near the coast.

I've also started doodling, and a few of those drawings have ended up here on the website.
